Attack is a really early skate video by Tim Simenon and Stacy Peralta and the first one i ever saw. Its amazing and god knows who did the sound track but it got me into hip hop. I asked my friend Gordon Dear about it at the time and he said it was by Public Enemy. Its not of course but i can see where he was coming from ! .. anyway i went straight to Our Price in Dundee and bought Fear of a Black Planet on tape. I'd been listening to nothing but The Beatles for 2 years so needless to say it blew my tiny mind.. it's still one of my favourite albums.

Talking to Duncan from the Phantom Band the other day there about Portishead's 'The Rip', John Carpenter's soundtracks, and other great sequenced arpeggios and what things could sound like unsequenced - hitting pitched gongs and the like. It turns out folks in Bali have been doing it for years (1780 years actually) when their man Sang Hyang Guru (the god who ruled as king of all Java) needed a signal to summon the gods and thus invented the gong. For more complex messages, he invented two other Gongs, thus forming the original gamelan set. And it's brilliant.

It just wouldn't be Christmas without the magical adventures of Sinbad the Sailor. The stop frame animation style of Ray Harryhausen makes these films a joy to behold. Harryhausen also worked on Jason and the Argonauts and king kong. Here's some of the best bits.

Hello dear blobbers, so this being our first blog I think we should introduce ourselves before we begin to let you into our thinkings, be them sexy or otherwise. Fisrtly we have Vincent Neff singing and hey hey(ing), then comes David McLean drumming, followed closely by Thomas Grace aka puzzles tinkering abart on't keys and then plods along myself, James Dixon, we're yet to decide exactly what it is I do. Dave says I annoy him mostly. Anyhoo, we all met at a friend's 23rd birthday party whilst playing postman's knock. Dave's beard got entwined in Tommy's, then, bushy moustache and me and Vinny helped them both untangle themselves. The rest as they say, is non of your business.
Anyway, so that's the story so far. We just arrived back in London last weekend from Transmuicales festival in Rennes, which was really great. We played at a venue in the town centre and we were totally blown away by the crowd there. If you were there...thanks and apologies for our poor to awful attemps at communicating in French. Apart from Dave's pre gig routine of standing on stage without his trousers on the gig was great fun. The whole festival was huge, the organisers were really great, we even got picked up from the train station by non other than Maradonna, I kid you not.

Highlights had to be The Phantom Band. Not only were they great but they managed to pick out myself in the middle of 1000+ people and throw me a free T-shirt, plonk right at my feet.
Reeyt-o, we're playing tomorrow night at the Legion on Old Street London with the really really good Veronica Falls. It's free so come along if you're about, we're on at 9.30, get there for 9.15 if you want to see Dave with no trousers on.
